The last and, on paper, most technically perfect of Edward I's Welsh castles — a true concentric design with a wall within a wall and a moat around the lot — though it was never actually finished, which is why it looks squat rather than towering. What is complete includes a working chapel with a carved stone ceiling that reviewers rate as a highlight in its own right.

Worth the trip

The chapel inside the inner ward, with its carved ceiling and stained glass — reviewers call it out as more impressive than they expected from a ruin.

Before you go

Watch the short introductory video before exploring, dogs are ground-level only (the uneven steps aren't safe for them), and the parking machine has been known to reject coins — bring the app as backup.

WHAT VISITORS SAY · 4.6 / 5 across 8,582 Google reviews

Visitors consistently rate Beaumaris Castle highly, with the chapel's carved ceiling and stained glass and the overall scale of the site frequently mentioned as highlights. Several note it's dog friendly on the ground level, though steps in places are uneven, and some areas are restricted for safety reasons. The introductory video is recommended by more than one reviewer as a good way to start the visit.

World Heritage Site; unfinished concentric castle with moat

“Its must see castle, Spent a couple of hours exploring the lower & upper levels. To see & hear about its history is really interesting. The sun was shining also which made for a brilliant day. Loved this castle.”— Steven Dunn, visitor review
