Not much of Bramber Castle survives beyond a single fragment of gatehouse tower, but the motte-and-bailey earthworks and the ditch walk around them make for a proper wander, with views across the Adur valley. It's free and open around the clock, alongside the church next door.

The defensive ditch walk that loops the whole site - steep and uneven in places, but reviewers say it's the part worth making time for, not just the tower.
Before you go
Parking near the site is tight and tricky - most visitors park in the village and walk up past St Nicholas Church instead. Go in expecting a small site, not a substantial ruin.

The recurring practical note is that the approach road and car park are in poor condition, so several suggest parking in the village and walking up instead.
