A National Trust for Scotland property beneath Goat Fell on the Isle of Arran, combining the castle with extensive gardens and a country park that includes what several parents call the best adventure playground they've visited. Reviewers rate the setting and grounds so highly that a closed castle interior doesn't seem to dent the visit much.
The adventure playground and country park - repeatedly named by reviewers with children as the best they've encountered at any castle site.
The garden paths form something of a maze, so budget extra time if you want to see everything, and keep an eye out for red squirrels, which reviewers regularly spot here.
Visitors consistently rave about Brodick Castle's gardens and grounds, its setting beneath Goat Fell, and the excellent children's adventure playground - several also mention spotting red squirrels as a highlight. A couple of reviewers note that the castle building itself and the coffee/tea room can have limited or closed hours (one visitor found both shut on the day they went, another flags the tea room's early 3pm closing), so it's worth checking opening times before travelling.

“Beautiful castle & grounds. So many exotic plants growing in Arrans own micro climate. This is a must see. Great way to spend half a day.”— David Gilmour, visitor review
