A single round tower on a Norman motte, free to visit and climbable via a tight spiral stair to a small, unguarded platform at the top. There isn't much to explore beyond the tower, but the view over Talgarth and the Welsh countryside from the top is what reviewers come back for.

Worth the trip

The view from the top of the tower — though the platform only fits two or three people comfortably, so it's not a spot to linger in a crowd.

Before you go

It closes at 4pm and there's no balcony rail at the top, so take care on wet days and think twice about bringing very young children up; parking is a layby right across from the entrance.

WHAT VISITORS SAY · 4.4 / 5 across 241 Google reviews

Reviewers consistently describe this as a small, free Norman tower castle worth a short stop, with the steep spiral stairs to the top rewarded by sweeping views over the Welsh countryside. Several note the summit is a tight squeeze that fits only a couple of people at a time, making it less suited to young children, and one visitor found the stairs required care in wet weather. One reviewer was disappointed to find the castle closed to the public due to nesting birds, though this didn't diminish their overall impression.
