Wales's most dramatically sited ruin, perched on a limestone crag above the Cennen gorge and reached via a steep climb from a working farm that also runs the tea room and gift shop below. It's in Cadw's care but run day-to-day by the farm.
The cave passage cut into the cliff beneath the castle - reviewers flag it as the standout extra, if slightly hair-raising.
The ticket booth closes at 4.30pm but you can still climb up after that; the walk up is steep, so allow more time than the distance suggests, and the farm's homemade cake gets repeat mentions.
Visitors overwhelmingly praise the views from the top and the steep, uphill climb needed to reach the castle, several calling it well worth the effort. Multiple reviewers highlight the cave beneath the castle as a genuine highlight, though a torch and sturdy shoes are recommended, and the on-site tearoom's homemade food gets repeated praise. No real complaints surface in the reviews beyond the physical effort of the climb itself.

“A quick outing for the family. Beautiful countryside to enjoy. The climb up is not difficult. Take care while venturing the cave. 8 GBP per person. The ticket booth closes at 4.30pm. However you can still climb to the…”— George Cheruvathoor, visitor review
