Newport, Wales
Newport Castle, Newport NP20 1DA
A riverside ruin on the banks of the River Usk, with its towers rising directly from the water — but the interior is fenced off, so this is a look-from-outside site rather than one to explore on foot. What survives is best appreciated from the river walk or the road bridge alongside it.
The view of the towers rising straight out of the river, best seen from the adjacent bridge or riverside path.
There's no public access inside the castle, so don't plan for more than a stop to look and photograph from the outside; it pairs well with a wider walk along the Usk rather than being a destination on its own.
Interior fenced off; riverside towers viewable externally only
