One of Henry VIII's chain of coastal artillery forts, built to guard the mouth of the Carrick Roads opposite its sister fort at St Mawes across the water. It's intact and English Heritage-run, with two holiday cottages on site if you want to stay rather than just visit.
The pairing with St Mawes Castle directly across the estuary - the two forts were designed to cover the same stretch of water between them, and seeing both makes sense of the defensive plan.
No visitor reviews were available for this listing - check English Heritage's site directly for current opening times and cottage availability before travelling.
