One of the largest castles in England, built by the Nevill family in the 14th century and still surrounded by a medieval deer park where you can watch deer from across the moat. Reviewers say the guided tour is worth prioritising over wandering free - it brings a genuinely heavyweight slab of northern history to life in a way self-guided visits don't.
