A medieval pele-tower house, expanded over centuries into a full manor and now branded simply 'Sizergh' by the National Trust. The gardens are a genuine draw in their own right, and the house tour brings out authentic, well-preserved interiors rather than a reconstruction.

Before you go
The Trust has mobility trampers available that reviewers say give disabled visitors access to almost the entire grounds, though not the inside of the castle; on bank holidays expect a queue at the main cafe, but there's usually a quicker-moving outdoor coffee van as an alternative.
