Not a medieval fortress at all but a Victorian-era castle turned family theme park, with rides, gnome grottoes and museum-style exhibits packed inside and out. It's a genuinely odd hybrid — part historic building, part fairground — and reviewers say it lands best with younger children.
Worth the trip
The mix of old-fashioned dark rides and animatronic exhibits inside a real castle building — reviewers describe it as unlike anywhere else.
Before you go
It suits younger children best — reviewers with kids over about 12 or 13 found it started to run thin. Parking is free and plentiful, and there's space for picnics if you want to make a full day of it.
Recent reviewers all had a thoroughly positive family day out, repeatedly highlighting the interactive gnome and model displays, marble runs, and old-fashioned arcade games as the standout draws for children, alongside friendly, welcoming staff. Free parking and pretty gardens/views also get a mention. The only note of criticism, from a single reviewer, was that the fountain show could use a spoken announcement to keep kids from running around during it — otherwise reviews are uniformly enthusiastic.
