A free Norman ruin held for generations by the Turberville family, with more upstanding masonry than many small Welsh castle ruins manage. A short stroll from the site also takes you to the 14th-century St Mary's Church next door.

Worth the trip

The height of the surviving walls and towers, unusually tall for a free, unstaffed ruin.

Before you go

Parking is very limited - space for around six cars - so arrive early if visiting at a busy time.
