A Norman ringwork castle reduced now to its outer wall and a notably well-carved gateway - honestly a brief stop, but its hilltop position once gave it a clear line of sight to Coity Castle across the valley.
The carved Norman gateway, the best-preserved detail left standing on site.
It's a ten-to-fifteen-minute visit at most - pair it with Coity Castle and Ogmore Castle nearby to make a fuller day of Bridgend's free castle ruins.
Reviewers consistently note that not much survives of Newcastle (Bridgend) Castle beyond the outer wall, a single tower, and a Norman doorway, and several are upfront that there isn't a great deal to see. Even so, most still enjoy the free visit, especially as one stop in a trio of nearby Bridgend-area castles that reviewers recommend visiting together, and it's repeatedly described as a good spot for kids to run around on the grass next to the adjoining church.

“open most of the time and its free entry. Never busy so you can go for a little picnic in nice weather. To be honest there’s not much there.”— skye robinson, visitor review
